CREATING URBAN ART WORKSHOP / toronto, 2013

Creating Urban Art workshop
Client: Art Gallery of Ontario & CITY OF TORONTO

Workshop Architecture developed a two-part artist workshop called “Creating Urban Art” for StreetARToronto’s Outside the Box project and the Art Gallery of Ontario. During the workshop held at the AGO, artists reviewed best practices in urban art around the world and developed a proposal for art on City traffic signal boxes at various locations around Toronto.

Work was developed around the idea, “Now you see it. Now you don’t.” This workshop was a chance for artists to learn how to develop a public art proposal and to receive feedback from public art experts and City staff members. As a result of their proposals, a number of the artists were commissioned by the City of Toronto to paint signal boxes across the city.
