City of Mississauga’s Public Art Program
Client: City of Mississauga
Helena was employed as the City of Mississauga’s Public Art Coordinator and then Cultural Planner from 2009 to 2012. To establish the Public Art Program, Helena drafted the final version of the Framework for a Public Art Program and managed internal and external consultations and the document’s adoption by Council within six months. Helena also ran a well-received Council education session on public art.
From 2010-12 Helena helped to realize six of the eight recommendations in the Framework. Her work for the public art program included liaising with a range of departments to establish contracts, acquisitions and financial procedures and drafting the City Art Corporate Policy. Helena initiated and managed a range of public art projects: digital, community, temporary and permanent. She also represented the Culture Division on a variety of interdepartmental staff working groups including Celebration Square’s design, Hurontario LRT’s planning and the Art Gallery of Mississauga’s feasibility study.
