Newmarket Public Art Plan & Policy / Newmarket, 2013

Newmarket Public Art Plan & Policy
Client: Town of Newmarket

Workshop Architecture worked with Town of Newmarket staff and stakeholders to create a public art master plan and policy for the town including establishing a vision, guiding principles and procedures. Internal and external consultation for the plan included workshops for staff and external organizations, a public online survey and one-to-one telephone interviews with key local representatives.

With a range of stakeholders, we developed site selection criteria and direction for 14 priority public art sites. Each site was informed by a page which gives guidelines and direction for future implementation including context, budget, scale and precedent examples.

We ran a Council Workshop in November 2013 and a well-attended Public Meeting in December 2013. The plan went through the approvals process in early 2014 and was approved unanimously by Council in June 2014.
