Kingston Commemoration Strategy
Client: City of Kingston
The Kingston Commemoration Strategy provides a vision of how commemorations in a variety of forms across the city can support a greater understanding of Kingston’s many stories. The strategy and corresponding policies establish clear and consistent protocols and decision-making processes for commemorations proposed on City of Kingston-owned property or requiring City approvals.
Kingston had a number of policies related to commemorations before the strategy was created, but they were in isolation and managed by separate departments and there were no criteria for prioritization of requests. Through public consultation and in dialogue with stakeholder and staff working groups, we helped clarify roles and responsibilities for the management of the City’s commemorative collections and developed urban design guidelines, subject matter and siting criteria.
