Under the Gardiner installation at the Community-Centred Exhibition
Client: Harbourfront Centre

Workshop Architecture was invited to take part in the Community-Centred exhibition in the Harbourfront Centre’s Architecture Gallery. Our contribution was called “Under the Gardiner.” The Gardiner Expressway’s form was questioned even before it was completed but, for better or worse, the Gardiner has played a significant role in shaping the city and people’s perception of it. There have been plenty of ideas for how to make better use of the structure, but few have been implemented. We did not present another scheme for the Gardiner, but a call to action (with a map and guide) for the wider ‘Gardiner Community’ to discover and use the large covered spaces under the expressway.
