Oneida Central Public School addition
Client: GRAND ERIE DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
The addition at Oneida Central Public School reconfigured the main entrance with bright red columns as a visible marker for the new kindergarten classrooms. Inside, the columns line the new corridor and boot storage area along the existing brick wall. The two new classrooms are linked by a series of shared spaces including accessible washrooms, a staff prep room and the red glazed block resource room. The resource room can be accessed from either classroom to provide space for visiting specialists or small group teaching.
Clerestory windows along two walls of each classroom bring in plenty of natural light while keeping the walls free for teaching and display space. More windows come in the form of square openings at student-height for framed views and a panel of full-height glazing facing the upgraded playground to the back of the school.
