Kingston Public Art Master Plan
Client: City of Kingston
Workshop Architecture worked with City of Kingston Culture staff, an Interdepartmental Working Group, and a Public Art Advisory Group (made up of artists and arts organizations) to develop a Public Art Master Plan that was approved by Council in July 2014. The Master Plan established a Public Art Program for Kingston and outlined seven types of public art sites (e.g. neighbourhood parks, streetscapes) to provide direction on capital spending in parks and public spaces across the city.
A comprehensive public consultation plan included: a kick-off meeting with a panel discussion at the Agnes Etherington arts centre; working with the Kingston Arts Council to commission five artists to help deliver consultation events in public spaces; delivering a kids workshop on Family Day; a public art survey answered by 217 people; and a consultation meeting focused on the development community attended by local homebuilders, architects and planners.
